“We received 280 calls for different emergencies during the Eid holidays,” a PACDA spokesman said.
He added that as many as 131 calls reporting road accidents and 129 incidents of fire were recorded during the holidays from different parts of the country. The rest, he pointed out, were rescue calls, including eight cases of drowning and 12 of people stranded in valleys and mountains.
“The injuries to people ranged from minor to serious,” he revealed.
“The fire at the Majan glass factory in Sohar [about 231km north of Muscat] was the biggest incident,” he said, adding that firefighters battled for over 12 hours to control the blaze at the Industrial Estate in the port town.
“A road accident in the Seeb district of Muscat caused a fire to one of the vehicles, causing the death of three occupants of one car,” he said.
According to the PACDA spokesman, there were incidents of drowning in Muscat, Bid Bid as well as Wadi Bani Khalid, a popular picnic spot, about 170km east of Muscat.
