The entire Arab situation and inter-Arab relations have been overshadowed by several regional and world developments, Nour El-Din Boushkouj addressed the 15th session of the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU), which kicked off here Sunday.

He listed three key challenges facing the Arab world as the grinding global financial crisis, Israel’s growing aggressiveness against the Palestinian people and inter-Arab splits and divisions.

He hoped that the coming Arab summit in Doha would lead to turning over a new chapter of inter-Arab relations based on setting aside disagreements and differences and unifying ranks in order to address serious challenges.

World developments over the last couple of decades have proved the significance of institutional work on all national, regional and international levels, he said, noting that parliaments play a key role in countries in view of legislation, surveillance and fulfillment of public expectations and ambitions.

The Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU) sets a priority to a further consolidation and reinforcement of Arab integration, establishment of democratic values, unification of legislation in the Arab world and adoption of single Arab parliamentary positions at regional and international forums, Boushkouj said.

He voiced confidence that the gathering would come up with recommendations that could benefit the interests of the Arab world, especially Palestine and Sudan.
