Al Mawali re-elected as Oman Shura Council chairman

Muscat: Khalid Al Mawali was re-elected as chairman of the elected Shura Council for the second consecutive term on Wednesday.

Al Mawali won 59 out of the 84 votes. Five candidates competed for the chairmanship of the Shura Council. Those candidates were Mohammad Al Busaidi, Bausher province, Mohammad Al Kindi of Nakhal province, Saleh Al Kithairi of Thamriat province, Ahmad Al Hadabi of Bidbid province, and Saleh Bin Saeed Mosin.

Al Mawali, chairman of the Shura Council and Wadi Al Mawil province representative, told Gulf News, that he had not expected to win a second term.

“I thank Shura members for putting their trust in me to be the chairman,” said Al Mawali.

He added that many topics will be discussed in the current term, mainly those related to oil price slump as well as finding solutions to that crisis.

Rashid Al Shamsi, was elected as a deputy chairman for the Shura Council after he won 53 out of the 84 votes.

Al Shamsi, who is a Buraimi province representative, said economic diversification was the top priority for him under the umbrella of the Shura Council.
