Barweez was arrested after filing a complaint of slander and defamation against a local newspaper at a police station, Alwefaq.net reported.
Al Wefaq considered Barweez a prisoner of conscience because the accusation -of "inciting hatred of the regime"- he is facing is related to his work in human rights. The arrest of Barweez and other human right defenders aims to hide the grave human rights violations perpetrated by the regime in Bahrain.
Al Wefaq calls on the authorities to stop the police-campaign against human right defenders and demands their unconditional release.
