"Claims against the League say that in some cases, the League represents this party or that (in reference to Hamas accusations) … the League’s positions are clear and is working for the public interest," chief of staff Ambassador Hisham Yousif said in a press release.
He also shed light on the recent Lebanese crisis, where similar accusations were raised prior to a full agreement in Doha, Qatar, but at the end the two parties involved – majority and minority – were convinced of the role played by the League.
Ambassador Yousif affirmed that the Arab League was not siding with Fatah or Hamas "but with the palestinian cause." Meanwhile, in response to recent developments in Gaza which resulted in killing of an Egyptian soldier and the injury of several Palestinians, the Ambassador said that the League asked Hamas to investigate the matter "in a serious and transparent manner." The Ambassador said the incident was a critical development, adding that the Palestinian side should be the side that call for investigation first before anybody else.
