Jeddah-based OIC said in a statement the call aimed at enabling the Syrian people to celebrate this "important religious" event and perform "their rituals in peace and security."
Arab League secretary general Nabil Al-Araby and his OIC chief Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, in the statement, said reaching a political solution for the Syrian conflict "is an Arab and Islamic objective and the desire of the international community but still facing hurdles."
They said that the proposed Eid Al-Fitr ceasefire could pave way to reaching a peaceful solution for the conflict that has so far killed over 100, 000 people with millions others displaced or refugees.
Al-Araby and Ihsanoglu called regional and international parties to support their appeal, and to urge the Syrian government stop the killing and destruction.
