The Director of International and Public Relations Affairs Subah Al Dosairi told Khaleej Times that there was an article in the law that gives more chances for Arabs to take up jobs in Bahrain than employees from others nationalities and it was high time to activate it.
He said that no employer would be forced to recruit Arab job-seekers, and they would be promoted through highlighting the skills and potentials of Arab labour forces.
Bahrain’s delegation, headed by the Minister of Labour Dr Majeed bin Mohsen Al Alawi, visited Egypt last month to discuss recruitment of qualified Egyptian manpower in selected occupations in the private sector. The deliberations resulted in the signing of an agreement to facilitate the recruitment of skilled Egyptian manpower in
Bahrain.
“We have taken with us representatives from the private sector to be informed of the benefits companies could gain by recruiting Egyptians,” he said while highlighting the need to recruit Arabs in key jobs as part of regional unity and the low risk of workers developing cultural shocks.
He said that the visit to Egypt would be followed with more to different Arab countries to boost ties and enhance labour cooperation.
Besides enhancing Arab unity callings, Egyptians are being promoted as good employment options come as part of the government’s keenness to enhance trades between the two countries after the volume of trade exchanges between Bahrain and Egypt jumped by 254 per cent over the last four years, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
According to recent statistics, exchanges worth BD26.3 million were reported last year, up from BD22.5m in 2006. The same statistics also reveal a steady growth from a modest BD7.5m in 2003 to BD14.6m three years later.
