The kindergarten sector which depends on high school graduates would be badly affected by the decision, the head of the Kindergartens Trade Unions Amina Abduljabar said on Monday.

The bill excludes from the decision 2,000 teachers currently working at more than 300 kindergartens.

Submitted by the largest bloc in the parliament Al Wefaq, the bill comes to regularise the sector. According to the introduction note of the bill, a copy of which was obtained by Khaleej Times, the sector should be developed for being the core of education as it covers children from the age of 3 to 6.

The bill also highlights the importance to enhance the preschool phase to further improve Bahrain’s human resources development initiatives. The preschool phase is run by the private sector as public and compulsory education starts from the age of seven.
