Teachers at around 170 kindergartens having a combine enrolment of 16, 000 children do not have job security as most of them work for an average BD100 and are forced to sign a nine-month salary contract which means they remain jobless during summer time when schools are closed for vacations.

Most of the teachers joined the profession because of the convenient timing as classes start at seven in the morning and end at one in the afternoon.

Al Asala MP Adel Al Muawda said that his bloc would contact other MPs when the parliamentary session resume in October to fight for the rights of these teachers.

“Parliament will call upon the Ministry of Labour to include these teachers in the salary increment scheme that covers 15,000 Bahraini workers. Under the scheme an average of BD50 are contributed for those receiving less than BD200 salary.”

He also called for inclusion of teachers in the training programme by the Labour Fund so that they could find better jobs, while urging the Unemployment Fund to provide these teachers with a monthly assistance ranging form BD150 to BD300 because of temporary nature of their jobs. The Ministry of Labour has also promised to consider the needs of those teachers as Assistant Under-Secretary of Labour Affairs Jameel Humadan said the problems of kindergarten teachers would be dealt with in coordination with bodies concerned. “We cannot ignore the problems of those working in the sector as most of them are females and are university graduates.”
