Speaking at a meeting with Bahraini members of parliament, Sheikh Khaled said the proposed Gulf Union would be launched during a special summit due in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in line with an earlier Gulf resolution.
He commended the transformation of the GCC members from the stage of cooperation into the phase of union as a strategic significant step.
He quoted Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa as welcoming the suggestion of the Gulf Union, which was tabled by Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.
The Bahraini foreign minister vowed that his country would honor relevant steps to be decided in this respect, noting that Bahrain has already appointed its representative to the body of the union, which has been created in order to put the Saudi overture in place.
He underlined Bahrain’s keenness on shifting from the stage of cooperation into the Gulf Union out of its belief in the importance of maintaining the entity of the GCC, building on it and developing it so as to give a boost to it and its institutions being developed thanks to the efforts of the GCC members and people.
