He said that such a project aimed to revive the export and import operations at the Bahraini ports.
Establishment of the new free trade zone will contribute greatly to facilitate export, import and re-export operations, the Bahraini daily Akhbar Al-Khaleej quoted the official as saying.
The project construction is estimated at about USD 135 million, he said, adding that the Advisory AT Kearney Company was tasked to study the project and assess its economic feasibility, in coordination with relevant Bahraini authorities.
He pointed out that the project will be "fortified with highly qualified human resources to create a competitive atmosphere with other ports in reigon.
