The defendants were found guilty of detonating a roadside bomb in the village of Aker that wounded four members of a passing police patrol, the source said.

Meanwhile, state news agency BNA reported that an Asian worker was wounded in an “act of terrorism” when a home-made explosive device went off at a bike repair shop outside a boys’ school near the eastern village of Muharraq.

“The blast resulted in hand injuries to an Asian worker who was rushed to hospital,” said the police statement on BNA.

Bahrain has seen two years of political unrest linked to opposition demands for a new government, according to human rights watchdogs.

An international inquiry commission, invited by Bahrain’s government, said in a report in November 2011 that 35 people had died during clashes.

The dead were mainly protesters but included five security personnel and seven foreigners. The report said five people had died from torture.

On Thursday, at least 10 civilians and several policemen were injured, an opposition group and the government said, during protests to mark the second anniversary of the arrival of forces.

The latest violence followed the death of two young men during clashes with police last month as Bahrainis marked the second anniversary of the Feb.14 start of the uprising.
