The Bahrain Bar Society condemned the act in a statement and considered it as disrespect to the lawyers and the role they played for the rule of law in the society.
President of the Society Jamila Ali Salman said last Sunday two lawyers were forced to undergo search by security forces when they were about to enter the courtroom to represent their clients who were charged with riots and vandalism.
“The incident should be investigated thoroughly by the bodies concerned as it was a violation of the constitution and bar law. Such incidents never happened even before the advent of democracy in Bahrain,” she said.
The assistant under-secretary for legal affairs at the Ministry of Interior said in a statement that security forces’ action was only aimed at ensuring security.
The under-secretary further said the search operation was smooth and fast, adding that the ministry was willing to hear the views of bodies concerned.
