The government priority is to help the needy in view of the requirements of the three occasions and unprecedented global economic conditions caused by inflation, the Prime Minister, Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, told the Cabinet yesterday.
Chairing the weekly session, the premier issued directives to intensify inspection campaigns to protect the common man from any price manipulation traders might do to benefit from the increasing demands for essential items for the three occasions.
The Cabinet called on traders to support the government in its effort to stabilise prices and asked specialised agencies to strictly enforce related laws and regulations.
Shaikh Khalifa extended Ramadhan wishes to His Majesty the King, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the people of Bahrain.
He also directed the Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs to meet all requirements of mosques during the holy month.
In line with the prime minister’s directives to meet citizens’ requirements, the Cabinet discussed the opening of a mechanised slaughterhouse in Muharraq, equipped with the best health, environmental and safety standards to serve the governorate and surrounding areas. The proposed abattoir would be able to meet the local demand. The session asked the Ministries of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture and Industry and Commerce, the Muharraq Governorate and the Muharraq Municipal Council to study the proposal. The Cabinet accepted a proposal by the Chamber of Deputies to set up weighing stations for vehicles and instructed the Ministry of Works to build three stations in Al Mahjar, the Sitra industrial area and the Hidd industrial area. Funds for the stations will be included in the ministry’s construction budget for the fiscals 2009 and 2010.
Another suggestion by the Chamber to calculate the period since the first application for a housing service in case of transferring requests from one service to another, was also accepted.
The meeting approved a draft law on an oil exploration and production agreement between Bahrain and a US company and referred the bill to parliament.
