Ban the use and development of biological weapons: Dr. Nayef

His Royal Highness Brigadier General Dr. Nayef bin Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, in charge of the implementation of the BWC, has recently delivered a lecture under the theme of “The history, the evolution and the impact of biological weapons on Civilians”, during a BWC workshop organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event took place in the Prince Selman’s lecture hall in the hospital and research center of King Faisal. The lecture focused on the types, the history and the evolution of biological weapons since the pre-Christian era until these days.

His Royal highness presented previous cases of biological weapons use. And during the lecture He also gave examples of recent use by terrorist organizations, illustrating his examples with images and videotapes.

Finally, he concluded by shedding light on the government’s efforts in the context of co-existence between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other nations. Besides he highlighted the Saudi cooperation with other nations in order to serve common interests and to safeguard people’s potentials, aspirations and participation in international peace and security and countering terrorism. In this context Saudi Arabia was one of the first states signing and ratifying the convention in 1972. Since then it is still calling upon all non adhering nations to take all necessary measures to adopt it. Convinced that the peaceful dialogue is the only sustainable dialogue between nations, it undertook the support the worldwide trend toward banning the production, the use and the development of such weapons.

His Royal Highness also shed light on the efforts made by the Ministry of Defense and Aviation in the context of the BWC implementation. The Workshop was characterized by an honorable distinguished audience of interested individuals in the fields of science, legislation and security. Besides, His Royal Highness highlighted the dangers of biological weapons on human beings and living beings in general as well as its negative impact on environment. Taking into consideration the insecurity and the fear it causes among people and nations he called for banning the use and the development of biological weapons.
