Parliament’s second vice-chairman Dr Salah Abdulrahman was responding to Al Wefaq’s insistence to have the questioning of a minister in the centre of allegations involving financial irregularities, listed in today’s schedule of their weekly session.
"Al Wefaq insisted to have the questioning listed, while others insisted that the general-secretariat office decision was right, and if Al Wefaq had any complaint it should send a letter to chairman Khalifa Al Dhahrani seeking a revision," said Dr Abdulrahman.
"We hope that this sensitive issue is resolved peacefully between MPs during the session, without a repetition of what had happened last week."
This is the second meeting since the suspension of last Tuesday’s parliament session after 10 minutes, following a furious clash when parliament’s general-secretariat office ruled last week that the bid to question Shaikh Ahmed was unconstitutional. Chairman Khalifa Al Dhahrani stormed out amid a barrage of insults from Al Wefaq MPs, who accused him of rigging a decision to question the minister over ‘Bandergate’.
Al Wefaq accused Mr Al Dhahrani in parliament on Tuesday of rigging the ruling by bringing an outside legal consultant to block the move.
