"They talked about the importance of interfaith dialogue helping to foster tolerance and peace. They discussed regional security issues as well as the Israel-Palestine situation," said spokesman Gordon Johndroe.

"They all discussed the upcoming global financial summit. The president looks forward to seeing King Abdullah in Washington this weekend" at global economic crisis talks, said Johndroe.

The meeting came a day after White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said the monarch, whose kingdom forbids public practice of religions other than Islam, knew his country has "a long way to go" on religious tolerance.
