The sources added such allegations are exploited by some Iraqi politicians to put pressure on Kuwait to give up its compensation claims which are based on resolutions issued by the UN Security Council for damages caused to Kuwait by Iraq’s invasion and occupation of the country in 1990/91.
The sources said the bedouns are originally Iraqis who were living in Kuwait until 1990. Some of them left for Iraq during the invasion and after the liberation of Kuwait they managed to get the Iraqi citizenship which simply proves they are Iraqis.
The sources also refuted Iraqi allegations that 500,000 Iraqis were deported from Kuwait after the country’s liberation in 1991. The sources contend the number of the Iraqis was much less than this figure prior to the invasion.
The sources pointed out, Kuwait has documents to prove that the persons who claim they are bedouns are in fact Iraqis.
