During his annual inspection at the Legal Department of the Dubai Police and the Human Trafficking Monitor Centre, Dhahi Khalfan reviewed the statistics which showed that 48 suspects were caught in 18 cases with 32 victims this year, compared to 35 human trafficking cases, 109 suspects and 61 victims last year.
He called for intensifying field visits and follow-up of human trafficking cases and to inform the officials concerned about the details of the cases. He also asked the centre to coordinate with the Dubai Police to end this phenomenon which affect the security of the nation.
He praised the police efforts and inspection visits to labour accommodations, which led to drop in labour protests. The Legal Department has conducted 1,774 inspections on labour camps during the last nine months, compared to 1,606 visits during the same period last year. The inspections are intended to ensure that the labourers living in accommodations have healthy conditions and suitable environment. After the inspection, reports are submitted to the Dubai Municipality and Ministry of Labour.
Dhahi Khalfan also launched a special awareness page on twitter about the anti-AIDS campaign being conducted by the Dubai Police and the UNICEF since 2005. During his visit to the Legal Department, Dhahi Khalfan confirmed that the Dubai Police would provide all facilities to make the campaign a success and to spread awareness among children.
