Efforts led by Qatar has yielded in opening doors to peace in Darfur: Al Mahmoud

He added that those efforts sought to persuade all parties on the need to pursue a peaceful solution and to renounce violence and consider the interest of their homeland. H.E. the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in a speech to the International Donors Conference for the reconstruction of Darfur, which opened in Cairo on Sunday said: "I am pleased to be here representing the State of Qatar, which pledged itself to pursue with the parties of the conflict and the international community to find a just and comprehensive solution to the conflict in Darfur that brings peace and opens the door to the prospects for reconstruction and development ".

 

H.E. al Mahmoud said that it was a result of these efforts that the parties were able to sign two framework agreements between the Sudanese government and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) on February 23, and the government and the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) on 18 March 18 on, referring to the signing of the Sudanese government a cease-fire agreement with the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) and in the same day.

 

He also said that these agreements is a remarkable development in the ongoing peace process as they establish the general frameworks to be followed by negotiations and enhance the stability witnessed in Darfur by the availability of the necessary confidence between the parties in order that peace process reach its desired objectives. H.E. the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said Qatar believes that peace, reconstruction and development are indivisible and that any peace witnessed in Darfur region will provide a fertile environment appropriate to the success of this conference.
