Only one candidate from the preliminary list of candidates has withdrawn his candidacy from Sharjah. The earlier list comprised 469 candidates.
The final tally of candidates in each emirate is: Abu Dhabi 117 candidates; Dubai 124; Sharjah 93; Ras Al Khaimah 60; Ajman 34; Umm Al Quwain 19 and Fujairah 21. The FNC election will be held on September 24 for a day from 8am till 7pm. The NEC unveiled the list after the legal period of appeal against candidates ended on August 23. The Committees of the Emirates did not receive any objections to the candidates whose names were stated on the NEC website.
Candidates are now allowed to begin their election campaign from the emirate they belong to from September 4, and can continue till September 21.
According to the instructions of the Executive Election Committee, there will be no change to the final list of candidates except in case of any candidates’ withdrawal from the competition as the committee has approved September 21 as the last date to apply for the withdrawal from his/her candidacy.
The NEC received a total of 85 applications from women to contest for the FNC elections, 22 from Abu Dhabi, 26 from Dubai, 16 from Sharjah, nine from Ras Al Khaimah, five from, four from Umm Al Quwain and three from Fujairah.
