According to the Qatari News Agency (QANA), the NHRC Secretary General Dr. Ali bin Simaikh Al Merri said the conference is organized within the framework of a celebration marking the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which falls on December 10.
The celebration will be attended by Arab justice and human rights ministers, Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, representatives from Arab national institutions on human rights and several regional and international human rights organizations.
Addressing a press conference held this afternoon at the NHRC headquarters, Dr. Al Marri said that the conference also would aim at promoting the Arab Convention on Human Rights which was recently ratified by Qatar and the Arab League.
The Arab Convention on Human Rights was issued in 1994 and was reformed by Arab experts in 2001 in order to meet the international standards on human rights before being recently implemented.
