In an interview with the Saudi magazine Al Shu’ra, Al Ghurair said the FNC, in its present composition and enhanced mandate, is well-placed to take a proactive role in national issues.
"This house is a conspicuous signpost in our country’s history. It is historic not only because half of its members were elcted in the first elections ever but also because it is the first parliament to include a large number of women".
Al Ghurair explained that the changes in FNC composition were part of a wider political vision outlined by President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in early 2005.
"The electoral process has enabled the electorate to choose the best lawmakers. The house is now offering an invaluable support to the executive branch", he said.
