According to a document obtained by a local newspaper issued by the Iraqi Embassy in Riyadh, "the appointment of an attorney to defend Saudi detainees who are in Iraqi jails for many years will not be active and influential in shifting the legal path of the case or influence on the course of its running."

"Iraqi law on representation by lawyers in its Article III stipulates that ‘the power of attorney is granted to any lawyer from any Arab country on condition he is an associate of one of the bar associations in an Arab country.’ Therefore, the field is open for Saudi lawyers to plead in front of the Iraqi judiciary provided they join the union of lawyers association," the embassy said in a statement sent to lawyer Abdul Rahman Al-Jarees, the supervisor of the file of Saudi prisoners in Iraq.

The Iraqi Embassy described Saudi-Iraqi relations as "warm" in their statement, which encourages the formation of a legal team of Saudi and Iraqi lawyers to defend Saudi prisoners in Iraqi jails. The embassy has declared that this idea was welcomed by Maj. Gen. Adnan Hadi Al-Asadi, a senior agent for administrative affairs at the Ministry of Interior.

The Iraqi Embassy demanded the presence of lawyer Abdul Rahman Al-Jarees on Iraqi territory in order to take over the task of defending Saudi prisoners, which will create an atmosphere of trust between all parties.
