Speaking to reporters before his departure to Jeddah, Sheikh Mohammad affirmed the importance of the GCC meeting which would act as a prelude for the GCC leaders summit to be held in Muscat, Oman, in the end of 2008.
On His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah’s visit to Washington and New York this month, Sheikh Mohammad affirmed that the visit is part of an official invitation to Sheikh Nasser who is going to head Kuwait’s delegation to the UN General Assembly.
Sheikh Mohammad also commented on his upcoming sideline meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan in Jeddah, stressing that it would be very important due to Turkey’s intentions to establish a free trade zone with the GCC states.
Whether Sheikh Nasser would address the issue of Kuwaiti detainees in Guantanamo Bay, the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister affirmed that the issue would be on the top list of priorities, adding that the status of Kuwaiti students in the US would also be among the agenda of His Highness visit to Washington and New York.
The visit would also aim at reflecting the true humanitarian nature of Kuwaiti charitable societies to US officials, said Sheikh Mohammad.
Sheikh Mohammad answered a question on the possible participation of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad in the upcoming Gulf summit in Oman, saying that the matter is left to the Omanis to decide.
On latest developments in the Iranian nuclear file, Sheikh Mohammad stated that no new developments had occurred on the process.
