The ceremony was attended by GCC foreign ministers, Abdurrahman bin Hamad al Attiyah, GCC Secretary-General and GCC officials and diplomats. Al Attiyah said that the opening of the mission achieves the noble objectives of GCC leaders in their aspiration to meet the interests of the peoples and safeguard prosperity and stability.
The GCC hereby reaffirms its partnership with the international community in tackling global issues and working towards the overall goals of peace, security and development, said Al Attiyah. GCC foreign ministers held their annual co-ordination meeting at the GCC Mission at the UN here on the sidelines of the current UN General Assembly. During the meeting, which was chaired by Alawi and attended by Al Attiyah, the ministers exchanged views about co-ordinating stand towards the agenda of the current UN session, as well as meetings to be held with regional groups.
Alawi also met with the European Troika delegation, which comprises foreign ministers of Sweden and Spain and the Commissioner of EU Foreign Relations, Benita Ferrero. The meeting was attended by Shaikh Dr Mohammed al Sabah al Salim al Sabah, Kuwait Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and Al Attiyah. The meeting discussed ways to promote co-operation between the GCC and the EU.
