Secretary General for the Qatari committee, Dr. Ali Al-Marri opened the meeting with a speech stressing the importance of the GCC program in creating a starting point for a united human rights effort in the region.
He lauded the on-going exchange of thoughts on the human rights among international organizations like the UN and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) as well as human rights activities, saying that their efforts were helping people worldwide.
The regional and international human rights efforts had been developing tremendously within the past three decades especially in the GCC region where the respect of human rights became a top priority, stated Al-Marri.
He affirmed that the development of human rights must go through the masses which need to be educated in the matters of human rights.
The GCC needs serious human rights advocates to spread knowledge of respecting other people despite their religious, social, or economic background, stressed Al-Marri.
The GCC event will tackle several issues concerning human rights in the Gulf region, defining the notions of civil and political rights and their practical usage to promote democracy and dialogue.
