The participating representatives discussed the foundations and principles to achieve a unified GCC vision of establishing a police force that aims to consolidate security and stability in the countries involved.
Major-General Mohammed bin Saleh Al Shehri, who chaired the event, said the meeting was an extension of what was discussed at the 30th meeting of the GCC Ministers of Interior held in the UAE last December, which had called for a study on the proposal to establish a GCC police force which would enhance security cooperation between the GCC countries.
Major-General Mohammed Al Shehri pointed out that the meeting was held under delicate security circumstances and the current developments and major transformations the world, and the region in specific, is experiencing.
On Tuesday, the GCC said its Peninsula Shield Force will conduct a joint exercise codenamed “Islands of Loyalty” from April 29 to 30 to test harmony and coordination among ground, air and naval forces and their readiness and abilities to carry out special, limited and major missions along coasts and islands within the territorial waters in light of the current developments.
