It comes just as Bahrain announced a fall in its unemployment rate from 3.8pc to 3.7pc last month, with 5,306 people officially registered as jobless.
But the picture is not so good for the region, with unemployment expected to rise by 1.7pc to top 10pc, compared to 8.8pc last year, according to the report GCC Unemployment: Sustainable Economies, by Dubai-based recruiting agency TalentRepublic.net.
Government-led initiatives are the key to fighting unemployment, says the report.
"Support from GCC governments is crucial in helping graduates and the unemployed acquire appropriate skills to better adapt to the new requirements of the regional job market," it says.
The agency emphasises the important role that governments could play by intervening and mobilising new programmes that help citizens become more proactive and self-sufficient.
Among the most effective campaigns that can be initiated are collaborative efforts with private educational institutions to create specialised training programmes for unemployed citizens, which will equip them with essential skills and techniques to become self-employed, it said.
