The ministers expressed satisfaction over the achievements accomplished in terms of security coordination level among GCC states. Further, they renewed their determination to strengthen and enhance cooperation among member countries.
The ministers, who held their meeting at Doha Sheraton, also welcomed the setting up of the Doha-based criminal information centre. The centre was set up recently to combat the growing menace of narcotics.
In a press release they issued at the closing of their 27th meeting here yesterday, the Ministers thanked the Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Chairman of GCC Supreme Council’s current session and the Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for the warm hospitality accorded to them.
The Ministers reaffirmed the stance of the GCC member States, which rejects violence and extremism accompanied by terrorism in various forms and manifestations and whatever its source.
They have also reaffirmed that member states will continue their support to the regional or international effort aimed at combating terrorism, which has become an international phenomenon threatening the security and peace and stability.
As for the potential security threat to the region under the accelerating changes taking place regional and international wise, their Excellencies recommended raising the issue for discussion in the upcoming meeting of GCC undersecretaries of Interior Ministries.
Qatar’s Minister of State for Interior Affairs H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, who delivered the opening speech, said that the recommendation reached by the Preparatory Committee at its meeting in Doha late last month cope with the regional and global security challenges. These challenges are mainly the phenomenon of terrorism, sea piracy, drug crimes among other innovated crimes.
"We hold responsibility in confronting and dealing with the major security challenges by upgrading our security system so as to be as the level of challenges," added the minister.
