The six members of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) “continue to conduct intensive consultations with parties in Yemen to overcome the crisis,” Abdullah told AFP late on Tuesday.
He expressed hope that the contacts would “lead to progress in reaching an agreement between the opposition and the ruling party.” Abdullah also said that a stalled GCC initiative that would see President Ali Abdullah Saleh step aside 30 days after it was signed in exchange for immunity from prosecution “is still on the table.” The opposition agreed to the proposal but Saleh has refused to sign.
