The AIP has been playing its assigned role, discussing and following up on various significant Arab affairs and has been taking instant action in tacking diverse social and economic issues concerning the Arab nation, said Mohammad Al-Saqer, in a statement to KUNA upon arrival in the Syrian capital on a visit during which he would meet President Bashar Al-Assad.
It is quite hard for the transitional parliament to take unified stances vis-a-vis some issues for it comprises up to 88 members representing 22 states, but these countries adopt common stands on democracy, freedom of expression and the necessity to enhance role of the parliament, said Al-Saqer, who was received by Chairman of the Syrian People’s Assembly Mahmoud Al-Abrash, AIP Secretary General Adnan Omran and the Kuwaiti Charge D’affaires, Mubarak Al-Suhaijan.
Shedding further light on good-will efforts by the parliament to resolve some of the major Arab issues, he indicated at the mediation role of the AIP between the Palestinian organizations, Hamas, and Fatah, last year. "We clould not realize conciliation and hold a meeting grouping leaders of the two movements because matters were beyond our realm of influence," he said.
He also indicated at efforts that had been exerted by the AIP political affairs committee regarding Sudan, adding that this commission was examining a proposal by him personally to hold dialogue between the Arab and Iranian nations.
Other commissions of the parliament have been involved in addressing various other affairs, such the joint Arab market and enhancing status of the women in the Arab world.
Member states of the parliament have finalized its bylaws and will draft the charter, he said, indicating that the transitional status of the parliament would be lifted once the legal process has been finalized.
