Al Metghawi told the Tribune yesterday that the people had complained that their names were omitted from the list of recipients.
“The methodology adopted does not ensure smooth distribution of the allowance. Every month, several people complained that they did not receive the money. The government has all the technology at its disposal to ensure that the beneficiaries receive the allowance every month. I do not know why it is not being put to use.
“The government has already gone electronic in many fields and it is possible for them to collect the eligible beneficiaries’ names and other details and distribute the money through a proper channel so that the people receive it promptly.”
Al Fadhala said the Ministry of Social Development had asked the people to register at its premises in Hamad Town. “Over 20,000 people, including elderly, are yet to register. They have to reach the ministry in the morning and wait for turn. The registration closes after a week.
“The ministry has social centres in all the five governorates. All they have to do is send the forms to these centres and announce registration. This will help the beneficiaries approach the nearest centre to complete the formalities. It will also help the ministry because there won’t be any rush to cope with,” the lawmaker said.
