Iran, Qatar Stress Broadening of Bilateral Ties

During the meeting in the Qatari capital on Thursday, Amir Abdollahian and al-Ramihi explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating mutual cooperation.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister pointed to the status quo of Tehran-Doha relations, and said, "The two countries have many commonalities that should be used by both sides for expansion of bilateral ties."

Amir Abdollahian, meantime pointed to the regional crises, and said, "As regards the regional developments, the Islamic Republic of Iran lays emphasis on political solution and dialogue among all sides."

He also pointed to the crisis in Yemen and the continued Saudi-led airstrikes on the country, and said, "The Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue is the solution to the crisis in Yemen.

The Qatari deputy foreign minister, for his part, underlined the willingness of his country for the all-out broadening of ties with Iran, and said, "Comprehensive talks among the regional countries are needed and all countries should take this into consideration."

The two sides also discussed the common threat posed by the Takfiri terrorist groups against the regional countries.

Both Iran and Qatar have recently augmented efforts to further expand ties and cooperation in all the different political, economic, defense, security, judicial and cultural fields.

The two Persian Gulf littoral states have signed several protocols in recent years to increase mutual cooperation.

In December, Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri in a message to Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani said Tehran was resolved to promote bilateral relations with Doha.

In his message, Jahangiri extended his congratulations to the Qatari premier, nation and government over the country’s national day, and underlined the need for the development of all-out ties between the two friendly nations.
