During the phone conversation, the Iranian and Saudi foreign ministers called for both sides’ relevant authorities to facilitate the pilgrimage in a bid to help Hajj pilgrims to perform their religious duties more conveniently.

Zarif thanked the Saudi government for providing services to Hajj pilgrims, specially Iranians, and said, “This year’s Hajj congress is a very suitable opportunity for the manifestation of the will of the Muslim nations to reinforce the pillars of brotherly relations among themselves.”

Hajj pilgrimage is one of the 10 secondary pillars of Islam and must be performed at least once in a lifetime by those who can afford the journey to Mecca, in Saudi Arabia.

Every year tens of thousands of Iranians embark on Hajj pilgrimage, where they join millions of other Muslims.
