Kerry: Iran’s role in Iraq backed by govt., Sunni leaders

He was reacting to the Saudi foreign minister’s reference to Iran’s involvement in Iraq, where the Iraqi and Shia volunteer forces backed by Tehran consultation fought to push terrorist group ISIL out of the city of Tikrit.
Pointing to Iran’s involvement in Iraq, Faisal, said, “The situation in Tikrit is a prime example of what we are worried about,” he said, according to Iran Daily.
Kerry also met at the Riyadh Air Base on Thursday morning with the foreign ministers from the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, which is made up of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Kerry said that he would convene a meeting in Washington with senior officials from the Persian Gulf states to discuss future security arrangements in the region.
He also sought to play down the reports of Iranian aid in the Tikrit operation. Kerry insisted that the offensive had been planned by Iraqi government.
