"What the US needs is to create a positive image in the Islamic world of the new approach laid by President (Barack) Obama, which is through the closure of Guantanamo detention facility and allowing charitable societies to help needy and poor societies because it will protect them from terrorist groups," Sheikh Mohammad, speaking to KUNA, said about his yesterday’s meeting with Clinton.
"This particularly requires the closure of Guantanamo prison which contradicts with all American values that call for justice, and to translate President Obama’s vision into reality by closing the detention facility," he said.
Sheikh Mohammad said the US should "win the hearts and minds of Muslim people by cooperating with them and offering humanitarian assistance to poor communities.
"The best way to communicate with the poor communities and to make them immune against the abuse of terrorist organizations is by allowing philanthropic societies to return and to work heavily to create this immunity for these poor communities thus salvaging them from terrorist elements," he said.
Kuwait’s charitable societies took the lead in reaching poor communities inside the jungles of Africa and protected them from the terrorists and their funding, he said.
"Fighting these charitable societies and capping their activities will create a vacuum that can be filled by the terrorist groups," asserted Sheikh Mohammad.
Kuwait’s charitable societies are cooperating fully with the government and work under it supervision, he added.
Asked about Iraq’s bids to exist from Chapter VII, Sheikh Mohammad said Iraq must finalize implementation of all UN resolutions. "This is the only way out and we will help it."
