According to the news website ‘alkhaleejaffairs’, a number of extremist Kuwaiti activists and members of the country’s parliament announced the news of Hujjat al-Islam Ibrahimi’s expulsion, claiming that they had read that he had insulted the Prophet Muhammad’s companions in sermons at a mosque and had asked the government to deport him.

Ahmad al-Azemi and Muhammad al-Jabbari, members of the Kuwaiti National Assembly, tweeted: “We appreciate the Minister of the Interior for his careful and rapid attention to our request for the immediate expulsion of Shaykh Ibrahimi.”

Kuwait has previously expelled Shi’ite scholars, including a case last year where they expelled Zaman al-Hasanawi, an cleric of Iraqi origin living in Kuwait.

They have also banned several Shi’ite and Sunni clerics from entering the country.
