Kuwait keen on fighting terrorism – official

On the sidelines of a meeting of the working group "Merge of terrorism efforts of the Middle East and North Africa," that kicked off in Cairo on Monday, Al-Awadhi told KUNA that Interior Ministry’s bodies were able to foil plans by terrorist cells aimed at the country’s security and its people.

He said the two-day meeting aims at discussing means of enhancing the efficiency of the world countries for combating terrorism and organized crime. The anti-terrorism combating team in the Middle East includes Egypt, Kuwait, Algeria, Bahrain, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Tunisia, the UAE, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Morocco and Syria.

The team aims at gathering data on the effective terror groups, their members, financing, techniques and motives.

For his side, head of the Arab and International Criminal Police, Colonel Adel Nasser Al-Seibei said the Interpol department in Kuwait works on combating terrorism and arresting criminals wanted abroad.

He said the cooperation between the Interpol in Kuwait and Egypt is distinguished in addition to the cooperation made with the GCC and Arab countries in the field of fighting terrorism.

This is the second meeting for the working group "Merge of terrorism efforts of the Middle East and North Africa". The first meeting was held in the Jordanian capital Amman, last year, with the participation of 26 Interpol member countries which established the workging group in 2002.
