Manama: Kuwait is naming its diplomatic institute after its former ambassador Shaikh Saud Al Nasser Al Sabah.

“The decision taken by the Emir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah is a rich tribute to the crucial role of Shaikh Saud in promoting the cause of Kuwait, especially during the savage invasion of the country by the former Iraqi regime,” said Shaikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah, the head of the institute.

“The renaming is also an honour for the Kuwaiti diplomacy which has invariably constituted a first line of defense for the nation,” he said.

Shaikh Saud died in January at the age of 68 after a long battle with illness. He gained international reputation for his relentless work to drive the Iraqi forces out of Kuwait between August 1990 and January 1991.
