"The meeting is part of the government’s stoical efforts to contain the consequences of the global economic crisis on the national economy," Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Faisal Al-Hajji Bukhadour told reporters following the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting chief of the government economic team and Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) Sheikh Salem Abdulaziz Al-Sabah presented to the cabinet members a report elaborating on the plans to face up to the impacts of the global economic crisis on the country’s financial stability and economic growth.

"The report of the economic team includes the possible steps to revive the national economy and shore up the financial institutions and banking system," Bukhadour disclosed.

The cabinet members highly appreciated the efforts made by the economic team to develop the report and follow up the developments of the international financial crunch, he pointed out.

The cabinet tasked its economic and legal committees with holding a joint meeting to probe the plans included in the report in detail as a prelude to their implementation.
"The two committees have to review all related procedures and report to the cabinet on the progress towards the desired targets," Bukhadour went on to say.

The cabinet also mulled issues related to the National Assembly (parliament) including the requests of some MPs and the agenda of the coming parliament session.
It also probed some political issues such as the latest developments of the situations within and outside the Arab region, he added.
