Sheikh Mohammad’s delegation, including the director of his bureau, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and the director of the GCC department, ambassador Jamal Al-Ghanem, was received upon arrival by the dean of the diplomatic corps, the Kuwaiti Ambassador to the UK Khaled Al-Duwaisan, and members of the Kuwaiti diplomatic mission.

In remarks he made in Kuwait upon his departure to London, Sheikh Mohammad affirmed that Kuwait along with the other member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) that are taking part in the two meetings will present certain ideas regarding means of resolving the crises in Yemen and Afghanistan.

The GCC states have drafted certain blueprints for resolving this crisis, he said, adding that the foreign ministers of the member states of the council would hold a coordination meeting ahead of the convention.

The first conference is scheduled to address conditions in Yemen that pose a danger to the stability and security not only in the GCC countries but also in other parts of the world, the deputy premier and foreign minister said.

He added that the conference on Yemen would be attended by delegates representing the GCC countries, Arab states and permanent member states of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Sheikh Mohammad denied that donations will be declared for Yemen at the convention.

Donations for Yemen were declared three-four years ago and they were not disbursed due to the unstable conditions in this country, "because we wanted to ensure that these funds would be spent in a manner that would realize the set objectives such as aiding the development process, combating poverty, hunger and diseases." As to the other meeting, he indicated that it would group representatives of states that maintain friendly ties with Afghanistan, and that it was aimed at ensuring that the nation would not plunge into wide-scale chaos again.

Qatari minister senses desire for peaceful solution from Darfur factions

KUNA: A Qatari senior official noted on Tuesday that he had sensed a desire from Sudanese warring political factions, to reach a peaceful solution on politics in Darfur province, during Doha’s hosting of consultations between the sides.

Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmad Al-Mahmoud said that Doha would continue to act as a host to the factions until peace is attained, describing the aim as an extremely important one and as a positive step encouraged by the mediation.

Speaking to reporters following a meeting with UN-AU mediator Djibril Bassole, and the Addis Ababa group who had earlier arrived in Doha, Al-Mahmoud said that he had sensed a desire for peace and keenness to reach a solution on the Darfur issue, which he said was extremely crucial in uniting the sides.

The Qatari minister along with Bassole had held similar meetings over the past two days with a number of the sides involved in the struggle, namely representatives of the Sudanese government, the Justice and Equality Movement and the Sudan Liberation Movement.

He regarded the perception of willingness from the Addis Ababa group as one of the major points his country’s mediation is striving for, portraying the meeting as fruitful, and that the group had mentioned the upcoming arrival of a number of its leaders.

The meeting is the first with the group, while the minister explained he would wait for the arrival of the group’s remaining seniors.

Al-Mahmoud expressed hope uniting the province’s fronts and attaining comprehensive peace between its varied factions would become an eventual reality.

Furthermore, he said that the group had come with an eager attitude, to meet with the rest of the factions, and that they were encouraged to hold constructive talks with their counterparts.

Asked if the mediating contributors had a planned-out strategy to group the factions in a united consultation group, the minister clarified that the decision was left to the parties and that Qatar as a mediator would not obligate its intentions on the gatherers.

Whether there would be any consultations between the factions and their respected government, the minister revealed that were unofficial calls being made, and that this was open and acceptable, yet some factions awaited their leaders, and that consultations would continue at their arrival.
