Speaking to KUNA after the meeting, Sheikh Dr. Mohammad said he expressed the admiration of the Kuwaiti people and government for the wonderful civilizational achievements made by the UAE the latest of which is the inauguration of Burj Dubai, the world’s tallest tower.
"I have conveyed the best wishes of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for the people and government of sisterly UAE under President Sheikh Khalifa Bin-Zayed Al-Nahyan to make more progress towards prosperity and welfare," he said "The meeting with Sheikh Mohammad Al-Maktoum reviewed the outcome of the 30th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, hosted by Kuwait in late December, 2009, and ways to implement the resolutions of the summit," he revealed.
"The meeting also dealt with the developments of the political situation in the Arabian Gulf region particularly during Kuwait’s term of the GCC presidency," Sheikh Dr. Mohammad pointed out.
Earlier in the day the Kuwaiti foreign minister, accompanied by his UAE counterpart Abdullah Bin-Zayed Al-Nahyan, visited the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) to learn about the UAE’s peaceful nuclear program and its potential role in the country’s economic development.
The ENEC officials briefed Sheikh Dr. Mohammad and his party on the steps taken by the UAE to back up the social-economic development with the manipulation of the nuclear power and good governance.
A consortium, led by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) had a successful bid for the USD 20 billion project to build four nuclear power stations in last December. Each station has a projected annual capacity of 1,400 megawatts with the first one going operational in 2017 and the last in 2020. Studies conducted by the Government of Abu Dhabi show that national annual peak demand for electricity is calculated to rise more than 40,000 megawatts by 2020, a cumulative annual growth rate of about 9 percent.
Abu Dhabi’s decision to turn to nuclear power will in 10 years cut the country’s carbon emissions by 32 million tons a year, equivalent to the total carbon footprint of Bahrain, new Government figures show.
