The sources indicated that the motion for grilling the minister will shortly be completed and will also include questions on a number of issues concerning Kuwait University (KU) and the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET).

Jawhar, who has raised questions on these issues previously with the minister, is reportedly expected to be supported by a number of fellow MPs in the interpellation motion. On the issue of the controversy over the school term’s start date, Dr. Faisal Al-Mesalem, head of the parliamentary educational committee, said that the minister and the ministry’s undersecretaries council had supported the idea of postponing it until after Ramadan, despite the Cabinet’s rejection of this proposal.

MP Walid Al-Tabtabae, meanwhile, said that the Cabinet’s decision reflects the government’s negligent attitude towards parliamentary and popular demands. He questioned why the government insists on assigning New Year’s Day as a holiday while rejecting postponing the start of the school year until after Ramadan. Al-Tabtabae said that the days are extremely long and hot in September and students will get very tired if they attend school while fasting, reported Al-Rai.

A number of Kuwaiti citizens also expressed their disappointment with the government’s decision on the issue, criticizing Al-Sabeeh as the minister directly responsible. One Kuwaiti man, Jarah Al Azmi, questioned the Cabinet’s rejection of the proposed postponement of the school start date despite a number of government officials publicly supporting it.

Another citizen, Ali Al-Qatan expressed astonishment at ministers’ stance in rejecting the popular and parliamentary demands for postponement, whilst Thamer Al-Azmi said that the education minister and the Cabinet had to pay more attention to the demands of Kuwaiti people. A fourth citizen, Sayer Al-Zamel, said that the minister bears responsibility for the decision, also accusing her of having previously adopted contradictory stands before, which he said had also ignored Kuwaiti people’s wishes.
