Speaking to KUNA shortly after arrival in Doha on Tuesday heading a parliamentary delegation, Al-Saqer hoped Iran’s relations with the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries “be fine” considering the geographic and historic factors between both sides.
Al-Saqer, on his third leg of a GCC tour that already took him to Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, said GCC problems that should be solved by Tehran required “smooth handling by Iran,” like the UAE’s islands and the identity in Bahrain.
He said the GCC countries sought “peace and brotherly relations” with Iran and “away from … threats.” Al-Saqer, meanwhile, said the GCC tour aimed at exchanging views with officials in the Arab Gulf countries over GCC-Iran relations and the positions regarding the Arab Spring, as well as the situations in Syria, Egypt, Lebanon and Iraq.
“It is important to know how we can contribute to solving these issues … , “ he added.
They will also discuss the proposed GCC Union, he said.
Gulf unity “regardless of its type” is harmless as long as every country keeps its unique systems, citing Kuwait’s constitution and parliament, said Al-Saqer.
The Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation also consists of Ali Al-Deqbasi, Dr Hamad Al-Matar and Ammar Al-Ajmi.
Meanwhile, a Kuwaiti delegation of lawmakers left Manama on Tuesday after a three-day visit, in the course of which the delegation met with Bahraini officials with whom it discussed regional issues of common interest.
Presided by chairman Muhammad al-Saqer, the delegation made up of members of the foreign relations committee at the Kuwaiti National Assembly met with the Bahraini monarch and the Bahraini prime minister.
The lawmakers also met with Bahrain’s House Speaker and the Foreign Minister with whom they discussed means of boosting GCC relations.
Next stop for the lawmakers will be Qatar.
