The meeting between the two top diplomats coincided with Kuwait’s celebrations marking the 49th and 19th anniversaries of its National Day and Liberation Day respectively.
Speaking to KUNA and Kuwait TV here after the meeting, Sheikh Dr. Mohammad said he briefed Miliband on Kuwait’s agenda during its presidencies of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the first Arab economic summit.
"The talks which lasted for an hour dealt with issues of common concern such as the Iraqi general elections, due next month, and the ways to contribute jointly to Iraq’s stabilization and to security and stability in the entire Arabian Gulf region," the minister disclosed.
"As for the Iranian nuclear program, I have reiterated the importance of adopting the peaceful diplomatic option and guaranteeing Tehran’s right to peaceful nuclear technology.
"In the meantime the Iranian leaders have to show greater cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in order to remove the West’s concern over their nuclear intentions," he urged.
Sheikh Dr. Mohammad said his talks with Miliband touched the startling revelations about the killing of Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh, a Hamas military commander, by the Israeli secret service Mossad in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on January 20.
"The Mossad agents’ use of British passports in this heinous crime is deeply embarrassing for both the British government and any person holding a British passport," he noted.
"Secretary Miliband affirmed that his government takes the matter very seriously because the case constitutes an infringement not only on the UAE’s sovereignty but also on that of the UK," Sheikh Dr. Mohammad revealed that The UK which enjoys friendly ties with many countries of the world and advanced technology in the security domain will do its utmost to prevent the use of British passports in any criminal activity, he said, citing Miliband’s remarks during the meeting.
"Secretary Miliband pledged that the use of British passport in any criminal act will never reoccur in the future," he added.
"The talks also dealt with the situation in Yemen after the international conference on Yemen held in London in late January," Sheikh Dr. Mohammad went on to say.
"Both the State of Kuwait and the UK share the interest in stabilizing Yemen and bolstering up the ceasefire agreement, reached recently by the Yemeni government and the Houthi rebels.
"The GCC and the international community at large shoulder a joint responsibility for backing up the economic development in Yemen," he underscored.
The meeting was also attended by head of Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister’s office Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Kuwait Ambassador to the UK Khaled Al-Duwaisan and First Secretary of Kuwait Embassy Nawaf Al-Ahmad.
