They believe that removal of subsidy on those items will lead to increase in the cost of air tickets, transportation and shipping of food items. They have urged the government to rescind the decision or find a way of exempting Kuwaitis from it.
However, some of them opined the decision was to discourage smuggling and waste, while others called for bringing smugglers to book instead of adding extra burden on the citizens. The decision taken by the Cabinet and the Supreme Planning Council to lift the subsidy on jet fuel for airline companies with less than 5,000 flights through Kuwait annually will benefit the local airline companies which is Kuwait Airways Corporation and Jazeera Airways as they have more than 5,000 flights annually, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources from Kuwait Aviation Fueling Company (KAFCO).
They indicated that FlyDubai and Emirates are competing to ensure they have more than 5,000 flights through Kuwait, adding that a study will be made regarding the negative impacts on the annual sales of airline companies, which will be submitted to the concerned authorities.
