About 31 percent of the respondents, meanwhile, stated that Kuwait’s leadership should not have taken rash decisions about such sensitive issues and should have waited until it became better acquainted with the new Iraqi government’s intentions and stance to resume diplomatic relations.

Only 23 percent of those surveyed agreed that diplomatic relations should be reopened, saying that the old disputes, along with Iraq’s aggression against Kuwait, had been over for a long time.

Asked whether or not they supported the opening of a Kuwaiti embassy in Iraq at present or not, 41 percent opposed the idea, while 38 percent supported it.

The remaining 21 percent said that whilst the present day was too soon to reopen an embassy in Baghdad, they would support reopening one there in the future.
