“If some foreign media maligns the image of Qatar and spreads malicious propaganda, it is like crossing the red line. So there is a need to investigate and bring the truth before the world,” Hussain Al Mulla, an undersecretary at the labour and social affairs ministry, was quoted as saying by The Peninsula newspaper.

Al Mulla said authorities were determined to find out who was behind the report in UK-based The Guardian newspaper, which said 44 Nepalese labourers had died during the summer while working on Qatar developments.

The report only detailed the deaths and torture claims of Nepalese workers, who make up a portion of the total foreign labourers in the country, and referred to numerous pieces of information received from the Nepalese embassy in Qatar.
