They discussed topics on the Arab Summit’s agenda, as well as bilateral relations and ways to boost them.
Shaikh Khalifa thanked Col Gaddafi for mentioning in his speech Iran’s continued occupation of UAE’s three islands and the need to refer the dispute to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for arbitration.
Shaikh Khalifa said the UAE has always called for resolving the issue either through direct negotiations or by referring it to the ICJ.
Shaikh Khalifa invited Colonel Gaddafi to visit the UAE. The Libyan leader accepted the invitation.
Shaikh Khalifa also met Iraqi Vice-President Dr Adil Abul Mahdi here yesterday. Shaikh Khalifa reiterated UAE’s keenness on Iraq’s unity, stability and sovereignty and its support to the national reconciliation efforts.
The President also thanked the Iraqi vice-president for his country’s support to UAE’s efforts to regain its three islands occupied by Iran, either through direct negotiations or by referring the dispute to theICJ.
The Iraqi vice-president thanked Shaikh Khalifa for UAE’s continuous support to Iraq.
The meetings were attended by Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs Ahmed Juma Al Zaabi.
